COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know

WHAT IS A HOME INSPECTION?

A home inspection is a brief analysis and assessment of all the major components of a house, condo, townhouse, or building.  We test all major systems and provide a written and verbal report to give you more information about the building or unit.  This includes inspecting and testing the roof, foundation, electrical system, heating and air conditioning, and plumbing, as well as a representative number of interior and exterior components.  This includes operating doors, flushing toilets, testing window functionality, testing outlets, etc.  The purpose of an inspection is to allow you to make a more educated and informed decision when buying, selling, or owning a property.

ARE YOU LICENSED OR CERTIFIED?

Currently, the State of Hawai'i does not have a licensing body for home inspectors.  There are certifying bodies for inspectors, such as InterNACHI and ASHI.  Joseph, our lead inspector, is a Certified Professional Inspector through InterNACHI as well as a Certified Master Inspector.  Joseph is also a licensed contractor with over 25 years of construction and inspection experience and has completed over 3,500 paid inspections.

DO I REALLY NEED A HOME INSPECTION?

Every decision about buying or selling a house is yours, but we stand by the old adage of "More information is always better."  With thousands of inspections done, we have seen a truly staggering amount of different scenarios and can honestly state that getting a home inspection when buying or selling a home is a very wise decision.

ARE YOU AFFILIATED WITH ANY OTHER COMPANIES?

Yes!  We are happily affiliated with Kama'aina Handyman.  Not only are they the number one handyman company here on O'ahu, they are a fully licensed and insured contractor.

DO YOU PROVIDE REFERRALS OR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WORK?

Absolutely!  With decades of experience in the trades and inspections, we have worked with the best, and unfortunately, some of the worst, contractors on the islands.  We have personally seen and observed the work of most or all of the contractors we refer our clients to.

DO YOU GET COMMISSION FOR REFERRING CLIENTS?

We definitely do not.  We find it to be a conflict of interest to accept referral fees, commissions, or percentages of any work we refer out.  All our referrals are based upon personal experience.
